It was very warm again and sunny as we set off along the
canal. We were just before Hurleston
Junction so passed there, this is the Junction with the Llangollen Canal.
On past there and then we came to Barbridge where the Olde
Barbridge Inn is right on the canal and has moorings as well. It is a nice pub and we have stopped there in
the past but today we went on.
We then came to Barbridge Junction which is the junction
with the Middlewich Branch of the Shropshire Union Canal. We will be going along there in a while after
we have been to Chester and back to Audlem.
We chugged on for a mile of so and then came to Calveley
where we moored up just past the bridge in the visitor moorings. They were very busy but there was one space
for us.
We sat outside for a bit as it is very hot and quite humid
today and then we went for a walk along the canal to Calveley Mill where there
is a Cheese Shop and Café. The Cheese
factory is there as well and they get the cheese from local makers and then process
the cheese and flavour it and sell it in their shop.
We had a drink and a bite to eat in the café and then had a
look around the shop and bought some cheese.
The shop also sells groceries, handy if you run out of milk, etc., as
there are no shops around here only a garage quite a walk away. It is a nice place and well worth a
visit. There is also moorings right
outside the café.
We walked back to the boat and chilled out for a bit. It went a bit cloudy but we didn’t get any
rain or thunder and then it brightened up again but there was a bit of wind so
felt cooler.
Later in the afternoon, we had a walk along the towpath the
other way to Bunbury Staircase locks. We
will be doing them tomorrow.
We are staying here tonight then moving on in the morning.
