My yummy dessert |

Our delicious tapas |
The sun was shining when we got up.
The hire boat beside us reversed out of the moorings and got a bit stuck
so Kev went and gave him hand and helped pull the boat around and they went on
their way.
We had a great meal here at the Lion Quays last night, it’s a lovely
place and we will definitely be coming back in the future, it’s also great you
can moor right outside.

Leaving Lion /Quays |
We untied and Kev reversed out perfectly and we went on
our way. The canal seemed shallow today
and we struggled in a few places especially passing boats.

Lovely Sunny Day |

Passing Ushers |
We were soon passing Ushers
|
Coming into New Marton Top Lock |
pop up tearoom where we had a cuppa and cake
and bought home made jam on our way up the canal a few weeks ago. All the money taken goes to charity.

Bird by the lock |

Coming into the next lock |
We then came to New Marton Locks and a boat was coming up the top lock
so we waited for him to come out and then it was our turn. There was some workers on the lock doing some
painting so they have me a hand. A boat
was coming up so we left the gates open and went on our way to the next one.
There was a boat coming out so we went straight in and there was also
another boat waiting to come up so I got help at this lock as well.

Lovely Countryside |
We were soon on our way again chugging along in the lovely warm
sunshine. We passed a hire boat place
where there are lots of moored boats and although we were in the middle of the
canal, we were scrapping along the bottom, we don’t remember the canal being
this shallow on the way up.

Coming to a bridge |
|
Used to be a tall bridge here |
After another mile or so we moored up in some nice open sunny moorings
where we stopped on the way up. We had
brunch then went for a walk down to Frankton Junction about a mile away. This is the junction with the Montgomery
canal and we are off down there tomorrow for a few days so we wanted to have a
look at the locks you have to go through at the start of the canal.
It was very hot walking down so we had a look at the locks then sat in
the shade for a bit before walking back.
We did a cache on the way back and we were pleased to find it.
We are staying here tonight then heading down to the junction in the
morning. You have to book to go on the
Montgomery canal and they only let a maximum of 12 boats through each day and
you can only go through the locks between 12 noon and 2pm when they open up the
locks so we will be ready and waiting for our turn tomorrow.
