Tuesday 17th July

Bye Bye See You Tomorrow!
Walk to the Heritage Centre
We are staying put today but the three P's are moving on to Market Bosworth so we went and said bye to them, but should see them again tomorrow as we will be stopping at Market Bosworth and they set off on their way.

We then walked along the footpath which led to the Bosworth Battlefield Heritage Centre and Country Park. We had a look around the Centre and Shop and picked up a leaflet showing us the Heritage trail with information posts along the trail.

The battle of Bosworth is one of the most important battles in English history. It led to the War of the Roses, and planted the Tudor house on the throne of England. Henry Tudor, (Henry VII), earl of Richmond and a Lancastrian, defeated King Richard III, a Yorkist, at the battle of Bosworth Field on 22 August 1485.

Info Post on Trail
We set off along the trail and there were lovely views all around. We came to the information points on our walk and then we came to Shenton Station, this is the Battlefield line and runs on part of the former Ashby & Nuneaton Joint Railway that ran from Nuneaton to Moira and Coalville in Leicestershire. Steam and Diesel trains run three days in the week and at weekends, and goes from Shenton to Shackerstone, also stopping at Market Bosworth, the line is about 5 miles.
Train in Shenton Station

We spoke to one of the guards at the station and he said that it is usually diesel train in the week and steam at the weekends, but because of the prolonged hot weather steam trains are banned at the moment, so its all diesel.  We are going to go on this on our way back.
Shenton Station

We walked across the line, along the road, under the canal and up the road to Shenton.  We walked past a farm shop which wasn't open, there was a board outside which said Saturday/Monday open so assume its only open on those days so we will call again when we come back down the canal.

Ploughmans Lunch
We walked on along the road and then came to Whitemoors Antique Centre which also has a cafe with nice gardens.  We went in for a look around and what a place, it was great, there were several shipping containers and buildings all containing antiques, such a lot to browse around.

Old Fashioned Sweet Shop
We went in the cafe and sat in the gardens to have our lunch, we both had a ploughman’s and very good it was too.  We then had a good wander around and then back to the cafe for tea and cake before we started our walk back.

On our walk back we noticed another board outside another farm and that was also a farm shop but also not open so will visit this one as well on our return.  We went back the way we came and was soon back at Shenton Station, back across the railway line and then on along the trail reading the information boards as we went.

We then came to the canal so down under the bridge and we walked back along the towpath to Sutton Wharf and our boat, it was a good walk around four and a half miles, the Bosworth Centre and trail was really interesting and we found a good Antiques Centre and two Farm Shops, so a good day.
We are staying here again tonight, then off to Market Bosworth tomorrow.
