Between Bridges 13 & 14 to Hinckley - Ashby Canal

Yesterday (Saturday) we stayed put today as it is very hot again and where we are there is shade for us but the solar panels are in the sun so perfect.

Our Boat in the Distance
This morning (Sunday) we went for a walk in the morning down to Bridge 13 over the bridge and walked along the side of the field to Bridge 12 then back onto the towpath and back up to the boat, about a 2 mile walk, plenty long enough in this heat.  We then just chilled out for the rest of the day.

We got up then set off for a walk along the canal.  There are some nice moorings near Bridge 15 and we were going to move here tomorrow morning, but decided to move here today instead, so Kev walked back to get the boat, it wasn't very far and I sat on a bench and waited for him to come back with the boat.

Sign on the Gate!
We moored up then walked up to Bridge 17 where there is Trinity Marina which has a shop and also there is a Brewers Fayre pub there.  We went to the shop and the chap there was very friendly.  We then went in the pub and had a drink, they have a nice terrace overlooking the canal so we sat there.

Wow, We've Done 5 Miles on the Ashby!
We then walked back to the boat and we passed a gate which went out into some houses and on the gate there was a sign warning of deep water!  I think someone put the sign on the wrong side of the gate, either that or the houses are usually flooded and it has dried up with all the hot weather!
Our Friendly Neighbours

When we got back, we had our lunch and watched the Grand Prix which was quite exciting today.
We are staying here for a couple of days now as there is a Lidl and Tesco less than a mile and a half away so we will go there tomorrow to stock up on supplies and on Tuesday we are going to go to the Brewers Fayre for lunch, there are not many moorings near the pub so its easier to stay here and walk there.

Wednesday we will be off again and hopefully it will be a bit cooler!

  1. John said the Grand Prix was exciting too. We had pulled into Oundle marina for a break as the heat had become unbearable, and they were so friendly and so cheap, that we ended up staying overnight. He watched the race while I did the washing. Didn't need the drier, just took it straight out of the machine and hung it up and it was dry in a couple of hours!
