Hartshill (Coventry Canal) to Between Bridge 2 and 3 (Ashby Canal)

Moored at Hartshill Yard to get Water
We are on the move today and it was another sunny hot day as we set off along the canal to the water point to fill up.  Once the tank was full we went on our way, there were a few boats around, one in front of us and a few coming the other way.

Springwood Haven Marina
We went a couple of miles and stopped at Springwood Haven Marina.  It is a lovely small marina in a delightful setting, so peaceful.  We went in the Chandlery which is very well stocked to get a few things we needed.  You can use the Elsan for a small charge and also fill up with water if you need to and just give a donation.  They are very friendly in the Chandlery.

One of the Bridges through Nuneaton
We then went on our way once more through Nuneaton which is not too nice and moored up past Bridge 17 which looked a lovely open quiet spot but we hadn’t been there long when a motor bike came along the towpath and there were several cyclists and as the towpath was very narrow, after we had our lunch we decided to move on.

Marston Junction
We set off again along the canal and after a couple more bridges we were at Marston Junction which is the junction with the Ashby Canal and we turned left onto the Ashby leaving the Coventry canal behind us.

Turning onto the Ashby Canal
Going through the Old Stop Lock
The Ashby canal is 22 miles long and is a rural canal and quite shallow in places, we hired a boat on here back in 2008 and the only other time we have done it was in 2013, but we only did half of it, so we are looking forward to doing it all and exploring the villages and places which run along the canal.
The Lovely Rural Ashby

When you turn into the Ashby it is very narrow, there used to be a stop lock here but that has now gone.

We chugged on along the canal and moored up between bridges 2 and 3.

We are staying here tonight and then will move on a short distance tomorrow.
