Great Haywood to Weston Upon Trent- Trent & Mersey Canal

Yesterday (Sunday) we decided to stay put again and just have a quiet day.  We went for a walk up to the  Spar shop then into the Shugborough Estate and had a walk around the walled garden, they put the vegetables from the garden in a wheelbarrow and you can take what you like for a donation so we had some spring onions, a courgette and two corn on the cob.  We walked back to the boat and just chilled out for the rest of the day.

We are on the move today and it was another sunny dry day as we set off along the canal to Haywood lock.  There was a couple of boats in front of us so a bit of a queue.

Candy Boats in the Lock
Off They Go
Waiting to come down was the Candy boat and they have a boat and a butty so the boat came down first then waited outside the lock gates while we filled the lock and then the chap pulled the butty in and when that was down, they opened the gates and tied the butty onto the powered boat and they went on their way.

In They Come
Great Haywood Junction
Eventually it was our turn and we were soon through there and chugged on up the canal passing the junction with the Staffs & Worcester canal and stopped at the services to get water, etc.

Passing the Marina
In Hoo Mill Lock
When the tank was full, we went on our way, passing Great Haywood marina where we stayed last week and on up the canal and then came to Hoo Mill Lock.  A boat was just coming out so I got off the boat and walked up to the lock and Kev and Harry brought the boat in.

Horses by the Canal
I Can See You!
I filled the lock and then out we went leaving the gates open as there was a boat waiting to come in and we went on our way along the canal.

In Weston Lock
Sitting on the Green in the Sun
We then came to Weston Lock and would you believe it a boat was coming out of that one as well, we are lucky today so I walked up to the lock and Kev and Harry came in with the boat.  We were soon up the lock and on our way again.

We went a short way and then we were at Weston-upon-Trent where we moored up.

The Woolpack Pub on the Green
We had lunch, then in the afternoon walked up to the village green and walked around there past The Woolpack pub, we didn’t go in today.  We walked back to the boat.  On the lane by the canal is as row of cottages and one of them has chickens running around and they sell eggs so we bought a dozen on our way back.

We are staying here tonight then moving on a few miles tomorrow.
