Staying put in Bugsworth Basin and Lunch at the Navigation

Bugsworth Basin

We are staying put today and just as well as it rained all morning.  It did ease off a bit so we walked up to Tesco but they still had no power so we walked on into Whaley Bridge and went to the Co-op there.  It didn’t stop raining the whole time and even got a bit heavier so I was glad when we got back to the boat.

We dried out for a bit then walked up to the Navigation Pub which is in the basin.  It is a very old pub and was there when the basin was fully working.  It is the oldest still-inhabited building within the site.  Originally a farm, it became a public house for boatmen in the early part of the 19th Century.

The Navigation Inn
It is a lovely pub and we had lunch, which was really good and huge portions, well I suppose we are up North now where they are very generous!

It was still raining when we left the pub and so we hot footed it back to the boat.  We will just chill out for the rest of the day and hopefully the sun will be shining tomorrow and we can chug on.
