Congleton to Bottom of Bosley Locks (Macclesfield Canal)

Wednesday 10th August

Going under Railway Bridge at Congleton

It was dry when we got up but as we were getting ready to go, there was a heavy rain shower, so we waited for it to pass then we set off from Congleton and it brightened up,  we went under one of the Snake Bridges which are on this canal and past Congleton Railway Station and on along the canal.

Going under Snake Bridge
We stopped just past Bridge 68 to fill up with water.  There was a boat there so we went alongside them.  They weren’t long and then it was our turn to get water.  While we were filling up another boat came in for water.  One of the occupants was very keen, he got their hose pipe out and was trying to fix it to the tap while we were still filling up!  When we had finished he ran to the tap to fix their hose pipe so we shouted to him that we had to move out of the way first then they could go in the side to get water.   People are very strange sometimes!

Pretty Cow by the Canal
We went on along the canal, over Dane Aqueduct and moored up in the visitor moorings below Bosley locks.  There are 12 locks in this flight but we shall save them for another day!

It is a lovely spot here with a nice view of Bosley Cloud, a looming fell over 1000ft high and topped with remains of ancient earthworks.  We might tackle this hill on the way back.

Bosley Cloud
We had lunch then went for a walk up the locks, they are in lovely countryside with nice views and raise the canal 118ft to well over 500ft above sea level.

We had a look at the top to see what moorings there were as when we come up the locks, we may stop up there for a day or so.

We walked back down the locks and just chilled out.  We are staying here tonight and possibly tomorrow as the forecast is not great.
