Springwood Haven to Hartshill - Coventry Canal

Lovely View from Up Here
Lake in the Park

Yesterday (Saturday) we stayed put and it was another dry day when we got up so mid-morning we set off for a walk.  We were told by someone at the marina a while ago that up the road there was a bus stop so we set off to find it.  We walked up the lane which was uphill and then came to a main road, we walked along there then took a footpath through some houses and came out near the bus stop and a garage, the bus is the 48 which we have caught recently and goes to Coventry, Leicester, Nuneaton, Atherstone to name a few places, so handy to know for the future.

Footpath by the Old Quarry
We then walked through a park where there was a lake and came to Camp Hill where there was a Co-op, a general store, fish & chip shop, Boots and a cafe.

We had a drink in the cafe which was very nice and very cheap.  We then walked back through the park and along the road as there was a cache up a footpath, we found it okay.  We then crossed the road and decided to take the footpath there which we thought went back down to the lane we walked up, it ran alongside an old quarry and we were right, we were soon back on the lane and down there back to the canal and the boat.  It was a nice walk and good to find the shops and the bus stop.

We are moving on a couple of miles today to Hartshill.

Under the Bridge We Go
It was another dry day as we set off from our mooring, although a bit overcast and breezy.
Passing Springwood Haven Marina
We went under the bridge and past Springwood Haven Marina.  The canal was quiet so we didn't meet many boats.

We chugged on and soon came to Hartshill Yard where we stopped to fill up with water as we did the washing while we were going along.

Lots of Reeds on this Bit
Hartshill Yard
We then went under the bridge and moored up in a nice open spot where we moored on the way down the canal.

Quarryman's Walk Info Board
We had lunch then went out for our usual walk.  There was a cache near the bridge so we did that and found it okay, then walked the other way down to Hartshill Yard where was another cache on the bridge which we found as well then headed up Apple Pie Lane to find our third cache for today and guess what it was uphill again!

Sculpture at the Top of the Hill
This area is renowned for having lots of quarries, although none of them are in use now and there is a quarryman's walk, we did some of it when we were here before so we did some more of it today, but unfortunately we didn't have any luck with cache No. 3!

The Anchor Inn
We followed the path and it brought us back to the canal near The Anchor Inn so we stopped off there for refreshments and found cache No.4 which was on the towpath near the pub.  We then walked back along the towpath to the boat.

Just before Hartshill Yard, there is a boat selling free range eggs, the last time we were here no one was around, but today there was a lady and man in the garden, so we called over and they said they had some eggs, £1 a half dozen, so we walked over the bridge and got a dozen eggs, the chickens were running around the garden, so very free range.

We are staying here tonight and also tomorrow as Dobbies Garden Centre is just down the road and it is huge and good to look around and even has a food hall and butcher so we are off there tomorrow.
