Hinckley to Burton Hastings - Ashby Canal

We are on the move this morning, it had been raining but eased off so we decided to set off along the canal.  We met a few boats coming the other way but the canal was fairly quiet.  It did rain a bit as we chugged along, but nothing too much.

Not so sunny today
We went under a few bridges and after a couple of miles, we went under Bridge 8 and came to Hospital Bend and moored up just after there.

Around the Corner we go
We had lunch and as it brightened up, we went out for a walk and went up to the village of Burton Hastings, it is a very small village just a few houses and a church.

St Botolph's Church
Inside the Church
St. Botolph's Church was granted to Nuneaton Priory in the reign of Henry II and would have been used by the nuns of Nuneaton.  The chancel and part of the tower are 14th century. The nave was rebuilt at the beginning of the 16th century.  There are five bells in the tower, two are dated 1657, two are dated 1937 and one is undated.

Millennium Window
The church was open so we went in for a look and what a nice church it was, quite small and you can see how old it is.  We had a good look around, there is a nice window commemorating the Millennium and shows scenes reflecting places within the parish.

We then walked back down the road and back along the towpath to the boat just as it was spitting with rain.

We are staying here tonight and possibly tomorrow as well depending on the weather but we will decide in the morning.
