Dadlington to Stoke Golding - Ashby Canal

Tuesday 7th August

As usual the sun was shining when we got up, we are on the move today but only around the corner to a nice spot where we moored on the way up.

Willow Trees Overhanging
Coming to Another Bridge
We untied and chugged off along the canal, past duck corner where many ducks usually gather to be fed by the people that stop in the lay-by there, there is also picnic tables and benches, it is a nice spot but as we went past there were no ducks.

We went on around the corner and moored up where the canal straightened out.

Tomlinson's Farm Shop
As it was only midmorning when we moored up, Kev decided to sand down the side of the boat ready for painting, so that kept him busy for a while.  When he was finished, we walked down to Tomlinson's Farm Shop which is not far from the bridge.  It is a great farm shop and they do Dexter Beef burgers so we got some more of them and a few other things.

We then walked up the hill to the village of Stoke Golding.  There are a few pubs in the village so we decided to try one, the George & Dragon for lunch, it was a really nice pub and the food was very good too.  There is a shop near the pub so we went to get some milk, but it was shut for lunch, so we decided not to wait and Kev said he would come back up later this afternoon.

Duck Corner
We walked back down the road and went back to the farm shop as when we went there this morning, they didn't have any bread but were expecting a delivery.  The bread was in, so we got some rolls and went back to the boat.

We then just chilled out as it was very hot, Kev did go back up to the shop for milk.

We are now staying here a few days as Kev wants to get on with the painting and also Friday we are getting the bus to Hinckley to stock up on supplies.

Wednesday 8th August

Red & Light Green Stripes Done!
Kev was up early this morning, long before me and outside putting on two coats of red stripe and two coats of light green stripe.  We had a nice cooked breakfast when he was finished.

Early afternoon, we went out for a walk back up to duck corner as there was a cache there and one on the way there. Today there were many ducks on the corner all waiting to be fed, we didn't have any bread so they weren't best pleased to see us!

A short while after we got back to the boat, we had quite heavy rain for a while, but then it cleared away and the sun came back out, looks like it will be a dry evening.
