Nantwich to Coole Pilate Leisure Area (Shropshire Union Canal)

Going over Nantwich Aqueduct

We are moving on today but as usual not very far, just a few miles and the sun is shining today so that’s good.

We left our mooring and headed up the canal over Nantiwich Aqueduct and on along the canal.
A pair of working boats mooored up
In the first of Hack Locks
After a couple of miles we came to Hack Green Locks, these are a flight of two and not very deep. There was a boat coming down so they came out and we went in and were soon going onto the next one where there was about six boats waiting to come down so we had an easy passage through.

Nearly up
We chugged on and soon we were at Coole Pilate Leisure Area which is a really nice place to moor as there are picnic tables and barbecue facilities all courtesy of the Shropshire Union Canal Society so we moored up there.

There are two locks in this flight
Overwater Marina
Overwater Marina
We had lunch then went for a walk down the towpath to Bridge 80 and walked into Overwater Marina.  It is a nice walk about a mile and a half each way.  This is a very nice marina which has a Chandlery and a cafĂ©, so we had a look around and then went for a coffee and sat by the water watching a few boat go by.

It was a lovely sunny evening so we sat outside on the picnic tables.  We are staying here tonight then chugging on to Audlem tomorrow where our friends live so we are looking forward to seeing them and spending a few days there.
