Leaving Dunhampstead Tunnel |
After the strenuous day we had yesterday, doing 6 miles and 14
locks, we decided to take it easy today, so had a late start, we left Tibberton
at 10.45am to travel the 3½ miles to Hanbury Wharf and arrived there at 12.15pm,
that’s more like it! The canal was quite
quiet and only passed one boat. We
chugged past Oddingley where there is a little church near the canal and on
past Dunhampstead, through Dunhampstead tunnel all 230 yds and moored at
Hanbury outside the Eagle and Sun pub. When we got to Hanbury Wharf where the New
Boat Company is they had several wide beam boats moored on the tow path
opposite moored boats, so we had to squeeze through. A little after we had moored up, they moved
all the wide beams back into the boat yard making it easy to pass, if only we
had waited!!

The Eagle and Sun |
When we were here last September, the pub was a 2, 4, 6, 8
pub, cheap and cheerful. It apparently
changed hands last November and is now a Carvery and Steak pub. When we first stopped here about six years
ago, it was a carvery pub then and a very good one, so it has gone back to its
roots, so we thought we would give it a go.

The Eagle & Sun Garden by the Canal |
We had a really good carvery, with a choice of four meats and
they were very generous with the meat and a selection of 14 different
vegetables, Kev was in heaven and had the full house of veg! It has all been done out and is very nice and
clean and the staff were very friendly, a good pub and well worth a stop.
We are just going to chill out here for the rest of the day
and stay here tomorrow and take a walk down to Droitwich.

That's more like it – 3½ miles – I was getting worried when you did all those locks the day before!
