Gloucester to Tewkesbury

So we are off on our travels again, the sun is shining so off we go.  We are making our way to Stratford Upon Avon first, then onto the Grand Union Canal and following it all the way to London with maybe a few detours on the way.  We are really looking forward to our trip as most of it will be new to us so another adventure.

Leaving Gloucester Lock
Leaving Upper Lode Lock
We went into Gloucester lock, then down onto the River Severn and out we went.  There was another boat in the lock with us and Kev said they could go out the lock first, so they did at a snails pace, we followed them for a bit but they were going so slow, we were almost in reverse!  And on the partings you just want to get on up there and out onto the wide river, so I asked them if they had a problem and they said they couldn’t get any revs, so they moved over and we went past them thank goodness and on up the partings and out onto the wider river.  We saw a few boats coming the other way and trundled on up the river and into Upper Lode Lock. The river was really calm and it was sunny with just a few sharp showers.  Into the lock and up we went and on up the river and turned onto the River Avon and moored at Tewkesbury outside the lock.

We went up to see the Lock Keeper and paid to stay overnight (£5.00).  At the moorings in Tewkesbury you have to clamber up out of the boat, it is quite high so we asked the Lock Keeper  if we could stay on the lock moorings as I would find it difficult to climb up with my bad hips and legs and he said as it wasn’t busy that would be fine.

We chilled out for a bit, then walked up into the town, it is a nice town with a lot of old buildings.  Had a look around, went for a coffee and a toasted teacake, then back to the boat.  There is a really nice chip shop in Tewkesbury so we had chips for tea.

Just chilling out this evening and up bright and early tomorrow for chugging up to Worcester.
