Top of Tyrley Locks to Goldstone, opposite the Wharf Tavern - Shropshire Union Canal

 Wednesday 9th June

We had a nice couple of days moored at the top of Tyrley.  Tuesday we met Steve, Sue and Monty for lunch at The Four Alls pub.  The food was really nice and great company, we had a lovely afternoon.

Today we are on the move, just a couple of miles to Goldstone.  We have to go through a narrow cutting called Woodseaves, it is narrow in places so difficult to pass and made even more tricky now by a few land slides so decided to leave early and hopefully not meet another boat.  The sun was shining so looks like another lovely warm sunny day.

We set off about 8.30am from our mooring and headed along the canal.  We went under a bridge and then met a boat coming along, it is wide enough to pass on this stretch so no problems.

We were then approaching Woodseaves cutting.  The cutting is very deep and really impressive as it was dug out by men without powered machinery. We went under a very tall bridge and into the cutting.

There was a heron on the towpath who flew in front of us for a bit before flying over our heads and squawking loudly, they are lovely birds to see and look quite prehistoric.

There has been several land slides and so the towpath was closed but the canal is passable with care but even so while passing one land slide there is obviously still soil in the water as we nudged it as we went by, but it was fine and we passed without any problems.

This narrow cutting is about a mile long with two lovely really tall narrow bridges.  The sun was shining and all the birds were singing as we chugged along.

After a little while we were coming out of the cutting and luckily we hadn’t met any boats.
We carried on along the canal and then came to the moorings at Goldstone.  There were quite a few boats moored  there but we found a space and went in and moored up.

We are staying here for a few days now as tomorrow (Thursday) we are meeting our friends Jane, Sheila and Tony for lunch in the pub so looking forward to that and Kev has a couple of customers coming to collect orders.

Then probably on Saturday or Sunday we will move on a few more miles.
