Saturday 5th

We are on the move
today a few miles to Goldstone.

|
Shebdon Embankment |
It was a bright
morning as we set off along the canal. At the end of Shebdon Embankment is the
old Cadbury Factory at Knighton.

Old Cadbury Factory Sign |
|
Old Cadbury Factory |
The factory was
established by Cadburys in 1911 to make chocolate crumb for their Bournville
factory and was transported to and from Bournville by narrow boat.
The last narrow boat left Knighton Wharf with
a cargo of chocolate crumb bound for Bournville. The factory now produces dried
milk such as Birds custard, Marvel dried milk and Angel Delight.

Stop Gate |
|
Two Bridges Here |
At each end of
Shebdon Embankment are stop gates which can be shut if there is a breach.
We went on along the
canal under a few bridges and passed lots of moored boats.

Peaceful Canal |
|
Lots of Moored Boats |
We then came to
Goldstone and moored up opposite the Wharf Tavern.
This is a really
lovely pub, very rural and excellent food.

Kev's Ploughmans |
|
Coming to Goldstone |
We decided to go and
have lunch there. They do their home
battered scampi and I had that, I always think I will try something else, but always
go for the scampi because it is So good.
Kev had the ploughmans which he always has as well for the same reason
and we weren’t disappointed as it was as good as ever. It is a very friendly pub with good service. We
are actually going there for lunch tomorrow as well and our Audlem family are
joining us, so really looking forward to that and meeting up as this will be
the first time this year we have all been together

|
The Wharf Tavern |
We were going to go
for a walk in the afternoon but after our big lunch we just chilled out.
We are staying here
until Monday then we will make our way down the Tyrley five locks to Market
Drayton.
