Adderley to Audlem (between locks 2 and 3) - Shropshire Union Canal

Saturday 12th to Monday 14th September

Off We Go
Coming to a Bridge
Lovely Sunny Morning
We stayed at Adderley for the weekend just chilling out and going for a few walks.  We were looking out for damsons as I wanted to make some jam and we were walking along the lane and came to a house that had a big container outside their gate full of damsons for anyone to help themselves so we did and they even provided plastic bags.  That saves us picking them and guess what I will be doing in the next couple of days.

Nice Reflections
We had a nice few days at Adderley, it is a lovely spot to moor, very rural with nice views of the countryside but it was time to move on so on Monday we untied and headed off along the canal.
We are only going a couple of miles today to Audlem to a nice mooring down two of the Audlem locks.

Audlem Top Lock
Stall at Top of Locks
It was a glorious warm sunny morning, just right for a cruise.  We went under a few bridges then came to Audlem top lock. At this lock there is a house which has a stall selling cream teas, home made cakes and bread.

Off He Goes to the Next One
There was a boat just going in so we helped them through and one was coming up so once they were up and on their way, it was our turn.

In Lock No. 2
Out He Comes
We were soon through there and onto the next one. That lock didn’t take long to get through either, a boat was waiting to come up so Kev chugged out of the lock and onto the moorings and I left the gate open for them and walked along the towpath to catch Kev up.  There were a few spaces and a boat was just leaving, so we went in their space.
Harry Enjoying the Sunshine

In the afternoon, we walked down the locks to the village of Audlem, it is a lovely village and we always like being here. We went to the Coop and the butchers and walked around to our friend Jane’s house.

Our Afternoon Tea
Sheila and Tony
Harry was very pleased to see us and gave us a lovely greeting, we were pleased to see him as well and of course Jane.  Sheila and Tony then arrived and we had a lovely afternoon all sat in the garden drinking gin, well us girls were, Kev had Guiness and Tony had tea and then Jane did us afternoon tea, it was delicious, lovely sandwiches and home-made scones with jam and cream and cake, we were thoroughly spoilt.  It was great all being together again catching up and having lots of laughs as always.
Nice Evening Sky

Early evening we said our goodbyes although we will be seeing them all again soon as we will be around Audlem for a while yet and Kev and I waddled back up the locks to the boat.

It was a lovely sunny evening and there was a spectacular sunset.

Lovely Colours
Lovely Sunset
We are staying here for a couple of days then on Thursday we will head down the next 11 locks and moor up near the Shroppie Fly pub for the weekend.
