Branston (Below Lock) to Barton Turn (Below Lock (Trent & Mersey Canal

In Branston Lock

We are on the move today and it was a glorious hot sunny morning as we set off along the canal to Branston Lock which was just up ahead of us.  There was a couple of boats in front of us and one coming down, so we waited our turn and soon we were going up the lock and on along the canal.
Going into Tattenhill Lock

Past Brantston Water Park we went and before long we were at Tattenhill Lock.  The boat in front of us was just going up so we gave them a hand and as there wasn’t a boat coming down, we emptied the lock and Kev brought the boat in.  The locks along this section are very shallow so don’t take long to go through.
Thai Mains
We went on along the canal and stopped just after Bridge 36 where there is a boater’s refuse point so we could get rid of our rubbish and chugged for another mile and moored up in the visitor moorings below Barton Turn Lock.

Dessert
We are having lunch in the Nipa Thai Restaurant in Barton Turn Marina so we walked up the road and into the marina.  There were lots of people in the marina enjoying the sunshine.  The Thai Restaurant do a buffet lunch on a Sunday for a set price so we thought we would try that and very good it was too.  There was a table of various starters and cold salads, a table with the mains on of which there was about five or six dishes to choose from plus noodles and rice and stir fry vegetables.

We had our fill of the starters and mains then headed to the dessert table.  There was hot bananas in syrup, jelly, swiss roll, trifle and profiteroles and also tea and coffee and biscuits and of course I had to try it all!!
Lake at Barton Turn Marina

After lunch we had a walk around one of the three lakes in the marina then made our way back to the boat.  We sat inside as it was very hot outside and there wasn’t any shade where we were moored.

We are staying here tonight and also tomorrow then will head on up the canal.
