Sunday 30th
August & Monday 31st August
Antique Shop & Cafe |
It was dry this morning so we decided to go for another walk
but this time to North Kilworth. We
walked down to the bridge and up the bridle path but when we got to the fork
instead of going left we carried on up which took us to a farm track and we
followed that to the Church in North Kilworth.
Free Range Eggs for Sale |
It started raining while we were walking, I took my brolly but Kev
didn’t take a brolly or a coat so got wet.
We turned right just past the church and walked through the old part of
the village to the main road. We saw a
sign on the road opposite us which said Alberts Café, so we walked up there to take a look and
there was an antique shop there with a café at the back. We had a wander around the antique shop and
then had a coffee and some cake in the café.
Next to the shop was a shed selling free range eggs at a very reasonable
price, so we bought a dozen. We headed
along the main road past a pub, a garage and a post office and walked back to
the canal and back to our boat. The rain
was getting heavier so we were glad to get back, but it was a great walk.
Bank Holiday Monday was a washout, it rained for most of the
day so we were confined to barracks, but hopefully it will be better tomorrow
and we will chug off.
Tuesday 1st September
We are chugging on this morning but only a mile or so up the canal to Bridge 37 as we want to visit Stanford Reservoir as it said on the internet that it is a haven for wildlife.
It was sunny and warm as we set off along the canal, we saw
a few boats coming the other way and before we knew it, we were mooring up just
past Bridge 37 in a nice sunny open spot.
Peacock Butterfly on the canal |
We walked back to the bridge and up the road to the
reservoir car park to find that the gate was padlocked and there was a sign
saying private, entry by permit only so we couldn’t get in to the reservoir
which was a great pity as we were looking forward to a nice walk around the
water looking for wildlife. The road we
were on led up to South Kilworth where Joseph Morris the butchers is, so we
carried on up the road and into the village and went to the butchers shop and
bought some more goodies.
We then walked back down the road and as we went by the
reservoir, we saw a gate that led into the reservoir and it was open so we went
in and walked along the path, it went along the side of the reservoir but you
couldn’t really see much as the trees obscured the water so we only walked a
short way in then turned around and walked back to the road, also it actually
felt like we were trespassing.
We walked back to the boat and just chilled out for the rest
of the day. We are staying here tonight
then moving on tomorrow.
