Weekend at Norton Junction

Saturday 5th and Sunday 6th September

We decided to stay put here for the weekend and chug off to Braunston on Monday.

Whilton Marina Chandlery
Whilton Marina
The New Inn
It was a dry day on Saturday but a bit overcast and not that warm.  We went for a walk down the Buckby locks to Whilton Marina.  We walked into the marina where they have a chandlery and café.  We had a look around the chandlery, it is very well stocked and they were very friendly.  They also sell grocery items and milk and frozen products as well.  We then went next door to the café and had a coffee and a toasted teacake and sat outside.  It is a very nice marina and really friendly.    Opposite the marina is a garden centre so we went and had a look around there, then walked back up the locks and stopped for a drink at the New Inn pub which is right by the first lock.

Whilton Marina Cafe
Scooter Club
Colourfully Painted Scooters
Sunday we walked down the locks again, it is a really nice walk and you can watch the boats going through the locks and went for a coffee and cake in the café.  When we were walking down, we were wondering if it would be open on a Sunday, well when we got there about 8 cyclists turned up and while we were sat outside drinking our coffee, about 10 scooters turned up, it was Northampton Vespa Scooter Club.  Luckily they didn’t come in for a drink as I think if they had, the lady in the café would never have coped, she was getting really stressed with us and the cyclists turning up!  They just stopped I think to regroup, then went on their way.

There wasn’t much movement in the marina, but it was nice to sit out there, it was a really sunny spot.  We had our drinks then walked back up the locks to the boat.  We are staying here tonight and having the Dexter Steak Pie we bought from the farm shop by the marina for tea, looking forward to that, then moving on tomorrow.
