Great Haywood (Trent & Mersey Canal) to Tixall Wide (Staffordshire & Worcestershire Canal)

Friday 31st July to Monday 3rd August

Set up ready for Trading
Friday, Saturday and Sunday we stayed put at Great Haywood and set up our stall and did some trading.  This was the first time we have traded properly and it was a great weekend.  Lots of people stopped by to have a look and we sold a variety of products so really pleased with how it went and the weather was kind to us as well, so all in all a great start to being a Roving trader.

Monday – We went out for a walk in the morning and went to the farm shop where they have pick your own Strawberries and Raspberries.
Our Cheap Lunch

There were lots of people picking their own but plenty for us as well, this pick your own is very popular.   We then decided to have lunch in the cafe by the farm shop as they are running the Eat Out to Help Out scheme where you can get 50% off food and non alcoholic drinks.

They have an outside terrace by the canal and also a marquee, it was very busy and also we had a rain shower so I think everyone had headed for the marquee.

We eventually got a table and then Kev went and ordered our food.  We both had lamb burgers with blue cheese and sweet chilli jam and chips and coffee and it was £10 for the two of us, a bargain so thank you Boris!
Coming to the Aqueduct

Onto the Staffs & Worcs Canal
It is very well organised there, you order from the coffee van, then you collect your food from the collection point, the food is in throw away containers and any condiments you want and knives, forks and serviettes are put in a paper bag.

The River Sow Below
The burgers were really good.  We then walked back to the boat.

Coming to a Bridge
The canal was very quiet and the services were empty so we decided to take advantage and move up to the services go get water, then head up to Tixall Wide.

We untied and moved up to the service point and filled up with water, got rid of our rubbish and emptied the loos.

Lovely Bright Afternoon
Heron in the Reeds
We then reversed to the winding hole and went under the bridge into the Staffs & Worcester canal leaving the Trent & Mersey canal behind us.

Heron on the Towpath
Off He Goes
It was a nice sunny afternoon and we chugged along in the sunshine over the aqueduct and along the canal, under a bridge and then we were approaching Tixall Wide.

Lovely Reflections
It was quite busy with boats but we did find a space, we went in one space which I said to go in, but the side of the towpath wasn’t that good so we ended moving up a bit into a space that Kev said to go in first and it was much better, so maybe I should have listened to him! Mind you lately we seem to move into one or two places before we find the best place, I think it’s becoming the norm!

Sunset at Tixall Wide
We are staying here for a few days now.  It is such a lovely spot and we really like mooring here, mind you when we were here a couple of weeks ago, it was very quiet, but now it is packed, but still a lovely mooring spot.

Wednesday we are meeting our friends John, Sharon and Smuggler at the canalside café for lunch, so looking forward to catching up with them and the Eat Out to Help Out scheme is on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesdays so we can take advantage of that again.

Then on Friday we will be moving on towards Stafford Boat Club as next Monday we are going in there for a week to take our boat out of the water to black her bottom.
