Radford Bank to Stafford Boat Club (Staffs & Worcs Canal)

Saturday 8th and Sunday 9th August

Yesterday (Saturday) we stayed put and in the morning before it got too hot, we walked down to Queens Shopping Park where there is a few by stores.  We went into Boots and B&M and then had a coffee in Costa. We walked back to the boat and chilled out for the rest of the day.
Off We Go

Lots of Reeds Along Here
Today we are moving less then a mile down to Stafford Boat Club, they said we could moor on their visitor moorings if there was room if not there is plenty of space opposite.

Before we set off, we went up to the Radford Bank pub and had breakfast there. They do a buffet breakfast but now you get served instead of helping yourself. When we got there, the girl on the door asked us to use the sanitiser and then to register on an app our details.  She said do you have an iPhone, so Kev said no but other phones are available, she looked at Kev like he had two heads and said whaat, we just laughed, I think young people of today think thats the only phone around!

The breakfast was really nice and you could have much as you liked and all for the princely sum of £6.68 each and that included unlimited tea or coffee.

We walked back to the boat and a short while after, we untied and set off along the canal.  This section of the canal has lots of reeds growing on the sides so makes the canal quite narrow.  There were a few boats coming the other way, so we had to stop a couple of times at the wider points so we could pass.

Lovely Sunset
Sun Setting behind Stafford Castle
We got to Stafford Boat Club and as there was room on their visitor moorings, we moored up there.
They have a clubhouse and it was open today, so we went up there for a drink.  It’s really nice and everyone was very friendly.

Sun Going Down Opposite Boat Club
In the afternoon, we went for a walk up the hill to the main road where there is a big Co-op, a pharmacy and a Sizzling pub called The Wildwood.  You can also get a bus to Stafford or Cannock.
Almost Gone
We are going up on the slipway in the morning to get the boat out of the water onto the hard standing and then Kev will have a busy week blacking the boats bottom.

We will be in here for a week.  We haven’t been in here before, but it seems a really nice place and very friendly with good facilities, so hopefully it will all go to plan and we will leave here a week on Monday with a new shiny bottom (the boat that is, not me!!).
