Bridge 94 to Radford Bank (Staffordshire & Worcester Canal)

Chugging along in the dry today!
Going into Deptmore Lock and queue is forming

We decided to move a couple of miles along the canal to where there is a pub and a retail park and when we set off today the sun was shining, hurray, no rain, lets hope we can get moored up before it comes!

It's a deep lock

We got to Deptmore Lock and there was a queue of two boats in front of us, and there was a couple of boats coming up as well so we helped get them all through then it was our turn and just as we were going into the lock two more boats came behind us, so a busy lock today and that meant that I had help.  We were soon down through the lock and on our way along the canal.  Some of the fields by the canal were flooded and there was some cows in one of them, but they were okay as they had a bank and some of the field was not under water.

Flooded River Penk
We went on along the canal past the Stafford Boat club where there was lots of moored boats and soon we were at Radford Bank and we moored just before Bridge 98.  Where we were moored there was a gate and a path which went up to the road and this ran alongside the River Penk which had flooded the fields around it.  There was some cows and calves near the river but they had some field to be in without getting their feet wet.

Queens Shopping Park
Just up the road from the canal was an Aldi and a bit further on was Queens Shopping Park so we had a walk up there. There was quite a few shops, Boots, Matalan, Next and a Costa.

Flooded Children's Park
We had a walk around then went for a coffee.  We had to walk across the bridge that went over the River Penk and the other side there was a children’s play park and it was underwater!

Radford Bank Pub

The pub near the canal called Radford Bank is a Carvery pub so we went there for lunch.  It was cheap and cheerful, two courses for £6.45, I had gammon ham off the carvery and Kev had half a roast chicken and then you can help yourself to all the vegetables including chips at the carvery, then for dessert we had a bottomless ice-cream, they had an ice-cream machine and you just help yourself and there were sauces to go on the top as well, it was good value.

We walked back to the boat after our lunch and just chilled out.  We are staying here tonight and going for breakfast in the pub as they do an all you can eat for £4.29 and an extra £1.69 for bottomless tea or coffee and then we will chug onto Great Haywood a few miles up the canal.
