Rugeley to The Plum Pudding, Armitage (Trent & Mersey Canal)

Tuesday 14th July

We are moving on this morning just a couple of miles to the Plum Pudding Italian restaurant at Armitage, they have mooring right outside.
Coming to the Railway Bridge

On We Go
Coming to a Bridge
It was a bright warm dry morning as we set off along the canal past a few moored boats and under the big railway bridge. We chugged on and under a few more bridges and then we came to the water point which was empty so we moored up.  Another boat turned up while we were getting water.

Bright Morning
Passing a Family of Ducks
Last bridge before water point
Quite a few boats passed us and then a boat almost came alongside and the lady said “is the tap slow”, so I replied no it’s quite fast actually and we are nearly finished, the chap said good, but then I told him the boat behind us were waiting for water and they were next, he muttered something to his wife and they went on, obviously in too much of a hurry to wait!

Coming into the Tunnel
Going through the Tunnel
We left the water point and then came to a very narrow section only room for one boat.  This used to be Armitage Tunnel and it is 130yds long. The roof was removed in 1971 to combat the subsidence effects of coal being mined nearby.

Going under the Road Bridge
I got off the boat and went ahead to see if it was clear, it was so I signalled to Kev and along he came.  We got through okay, went around the bend and moored up in front of the Plum Pudding.

We are staying here for a couple of nights now.  The Plum Pudding is open from 4pm today just for drinks so we shall go and partake later and then tomorrow we shall go for lunch as they serve food Wednesday to Sunday, it’s a lovely place and the food is superb so we shall look forward to our lunch tomorrow.
