Brewood to Wheaton Aston( Shropshire Union Canal)

Monday 1st April

Off We Go
We spent the Winter on the Shropshire Union canal and the Staffs and Worcester canal, it was a very mild Winter with just a few days of snow and frost no beast from the east this year!  I worked in Bristol again over the Winter months for a different firm this time but still stayed with my friend Davina and I finished last week.  We are now heading off on our trip for the Summer although we won't be going too far in the next three weeks as we have our friend's dog Smuggler staying and they will be collecting him Easter week.  We enjoyed being on the narrows again over the Winter but now it’s time to head off up the canals to pastures new.

Coming to another bridge
Smugs enjoying the trip
We have been moored at Brewood over the weekend and this morning we set off along the canal in lovely sunshine.  We are only chugging a few miles to Wheaton Aston.  Smuggler sits out the back with Kev and keeps an eye on everything.

What a lovely boy
We chugged on along the canal, it’s a nice straight section and quite wooded.  We then came to Wheaton Aston lock.  It was empty so I filled it up and in came Kev and Smugs with the boat.  I opened the paddles and down they went.  I opened the gates and out they went on along the canal and stopped at the water point.  I shut the gates and walked down to the boat.

Once we had filled up the water tank, we moved into the visitor moorings.

It was then time to take Smugs for a walk so we headed off along the towpath and up past the lock and down to the next bridge and up on to a footpath for a bit then we turned around and came back.

We then had lunch and just chilled out for a while then I walked up to the Spar shop for a few things.  When I got back, Kev went out with Smugs again and the sun was still shining.

We are staying here for a few days now as we need to go to Stafford for shopping and we can get a bus from here, then we will move a little further on and so our adventure begins again.
