Monday 17th May
It was a bit overcast when we got up but dry so we left again just after 8.30am.
We went past the entrance to the Llangollen canal and past Hurleston Reservoir and on along the canal. We passed a Swan family, the babies were quite tiny, not very old I think.
We chugged on, under a couple of bridges then came to Barbridge where we passed the Barbridge Inn and the junction with the Middlewich arm.
The canal was very quiet and we didn’t see many moving boats.
After a couple of miles we were approaching Calveley. We went past Calveley mill where there is a cafe and a cheese shop selling the wonderful Calveley Crunch cheese so we will definitely be paying a visit there.
We stopped at the services to top up the water tank, then continued under the bridge and along the canal to the winding hole where we turned around and went back along the canal and moored up in the visitor moorings just before the bridge.
We had a bit of rain while we were chugging along but nothing really much and after we moored up, the sun came out which was nice.
We walked down to Calveley Mill and was glad to see they had Calveley Crunch so we bought some and one or two other things including Wedneslydale Champagne and Orange cheese, so looking forward to trying that.
We then had lunch in the cafe, it was nice to sit inside for a change, it was fairly busy but all the tables were spaced out and they were cleaning everything thoroughly every time someone left a table which was good to see.
After lunch, we walked back to the boat and Kev did a few jobs and I did some work for the firm I work for to earn a few pennies.
We are staying here tonight then tomorrow morning we are going to have breakfast in the cafe before we head to Nantwich. They have moorings outside the cafe so we will move down there and Jane is meeting us for breakfast so looking forward to that.
